Technical approach - description of work

Innovation will be achieved in the technical implementation of an IT solution that supports project coordination in the virtual enterprise. This necessity includes the appropriate internal and external workflow and its coordination.

ECC’s View on Business Processes
In general, ECC is able to support the following relevant business processes.

Information needs to be accessed and possibly exchanged at various stages of the purchasing, marketing, sales, execution and after-sales processes.

Core Processes
Potential ranges of functions comprised in these processes include:

  • Support for Marketing
  • Support for Sales
  • Monitoring Project Execution
  • Support for After Sales Activities
  • Support for Purchasing and Management

It is assumed that information already resides at each networked company. Appropriate interchange is needed.

The data that needs to be considered is shown in the following figure.

Collaboration of Applications

Applications at the companies need to have interfaces that allow the exchange of information. This clearly goes beyond the scope of information as it is interchanged through interface standards like EDI. ECC may use these standards where appropriate. However, standardization is not on the agenda for the project itself.

ECC’s Functional Components
In terms of interfaces, an ECC system will have to serve the following target groups:

Functionally, ECC will be segmented into the following components.

ECC specifically addresses network related issues. These specific issues together with ECC’s solution approach are listed in the following table.

Collaboration and coordination area Goal Challenge General approach
Sales and Marketing Management Effectiveness through utilization of "economies of scope" Synchronize sales forces of different companies

Encourage cross-selling

Increase transparency of activities across partner network
1. Electronic support for workflow

2. Standardized notification / messaging mechanisms

3. Transparent status tracking for pre-project activities
Management of Distributed Ressources Increased overall capacity Load distribution in network 1. Exchange of ERP system information

2. Access of planning mechanisms at different sites
Production Tracking and Management Efficiency through utilization of "economics of scale" Common procurement, production distribution 1. disposition of technical planning, manifacture and delivery considering spread production places

2. determination of the capacity, control of the production/ manifacture
Monitoring by corporate management at different companies Efficiency through service culture and response times Master data management 1. Formulation of an access authorisation model

2. Definition of automatic mechanisms for alarm messages, workflow, etc.

3. Creation of an IT structure enabling access for all participants

4. Finalisation of the required statistics and analysis capabilities
Purchasing of Goods and Services Efficiency through coordinated purchasing cooperation Networked planning and purchase organizing 1. Analysis of handling of projects with sub enterprises

2. Controlling of the purchase through linked enterprises

3. internet marketplace
